The Food Show Auckland proved once again a catalyst for consumer dining and beverage trends with tea being a major segment of exhibitors this year. Two of the new tea products were Real Seal Hot or Cold Brew fruit teas and Manuka Flower Tea, both having great but very different tastes. There were plenty of new flavours to try in both food and beverages. It took a bit of convincing to get people to try green tomatoes but they proved very popular as did the fresh clams, gorgeous cheeses and some delicious wines and liqueurs. Exhibitors were very generous with their samples this year handing out Free Range Pork bacon butties, Leader Brand baby beetroot, Southland Sweetness parsnips and much more.
ASB Auckland Seafood Festival Highlights January 24-26 2015
By Cynthia Daly
Great weather and the lure of the freshest seafood had crowds arriving from far and wide for the 2015 ASB Auckland Seafood Festival last weekend and they weren't disappointed.
The choices on offer ranged from freshly shucked oysters; fritters of whitebait, paua or mussels; salmon in an array of styles; skewers of prawns, snapper slidders, crayfish tails, takoyaki, fish tacos - to name but a few - even a waffle with smoked Norwegian sardines! And plenty of refreshing beverages to wash it all down.
Once diners had had their fill of seafood there were delicious sweet treats including churros, licorice, crêpes and waffles with dark chocolate and raspberries.
As the afternoon mellowed people's reserves they got up to sing and dance with the entertainers and just have a simply great time.
Best tastes for me were the Fish Tacos with Chipotle Mayo from Besos Latinos and the Dark Chocolate and Raspberry Waffle from Wattle Suprême - divine!!!
